The book takes place in modern world whereas all of the
supernatural being exists and blend in with human beings. Demons, vampires,
werewolves, witches, ghosts, etc. do appear in this supernatural world. To
bring a peace from the chaos caused by those bloodthirsty creatures, the
hunters also exists to prevent the world from catastrophe. Two brothers, Dean
and Sam Winchester make it their jobs as supernatural hunters by protecting and
saving people from those evil creatures. A legacy they received from their
father John Winchester as a family business to carry on. With shotgun loaded by
salts, real guns, spelling book, and their father’s journal as a guidance, they hunt things lurking
in the dark that dare disturbing the society.
The story happened between the second seasons of Supernatural
episodes “Crossroad Blues” and “Croatoan.” When Sam and Dean travelling
to the Bronx to help a friend of their fellow hunter, Ash’s—a classic rock’s singer
from rock band who is being haunted by a caterwauling lovelorn spook. That
turned out a lovesick banshee in a 80s heavy metal shirt taking her revenge on
the singer for abandoning her. Not far from the house, two universities’
students murdered by strange attacks, doubling their job and keep them out the
brothers safely lives.
A type of murder that seems too odds happen in New York
City’s life style, caused the numbers of murders happened before. Sam intrigued
by a spate of murders in the neighborhood that resembled the legendary and
creepy stories of famous classic author Edgar
Allan Poe. Being a hunters, it’s their job to investigate and stop all the
serial killers happened there. And their investigation leads to the center of
one of the Poe’s horror classical stories as the based motive of the killings.
They forced to face with their most terrifying foe yet, that
lead into one of their theories: Is
someone trying to perform a dark ritual in an effort to return the writer from
the Great Beyond? Or it turned out a simple serial killers that committed by
Poe’s fan and obsessed with his works? Whichever the answer is they had to
end this bloodshed murders that made the people restless. And both Sam and Dean
have to act quickly rewriting the ending of this horror tale going on, or a sneaky
serial killer will end their lives forevermore.
I really like this books, because it contains serial killers
mystery. Not only because I already liked Supernatural since had the shows
aired though, of course beside that fact. I do really like how in the books
Dean seems to enjoying himself while they’re dealing with the banshee, because
the dude is practically fan of classical
rocks music and how the brothers keep doing banter, snarky comebacks and
backhanded brotherly affection towards each other. Although this novel lack of
action until near the end, the mysteries served there is enough to keep me from
stop reading. And I recommend it for those who likes mystery novel with
handsome main characters as the plus point besides the twisting plot.
