Nowadays, we know that there are many kind of food
that is being added by additive everywhere. One of the which kind of food that
are familiar with us are snacks. Snacks that we are usually to eat in our spear
time, come in a variety of forms including packaged and processed foods and
items made from fresh ingredients at home. We usually prefer the packaged one
though than the fresh snacks made by ourself, because it is simple and we dont
need a lot of effort just to make it. But, do you know that there are not
little snacks that are dangerous for us if we consume them regularly?
One of the additive substance that
being added into snacks is Monosodium
glutamate (MSG), also
known as sodium glutamate. Industrial food manufacturers
market and use MSG as a flavor enhancer because it balances, blends and rounds
the total perception of other tastes. Trade
names of monosodium glutamate we can find are include Ac'cent, Aji-No-Moto,
and Ve-Tsin. This substance is
mostly added in packages food such as salty crackers, cheese or roasted chicken
flavoured biscuits. In our country this kind of snacks contain MSG casn be
found in children snacks like Cheetos, Chitato, Smax chicken flavoured, and
Taro seaweed flavoured.
What
is the cause of consuming Snacks that contained MSG to our body? MSG can caused
a lot of effect to our body. Especially
for those who are sensitive to MSG additive there are several effect that can
be caused like burning sensations of the mouth,
head and neck, weakness of the arms or
legs, headaches, upset stomach, hives or other allergic-type reactions with
the skin. What if MSG causes
no noticeable or immediate reaction in you? That’s because the effects of MSG
are cumulative. Just because you don’t react to MSG now, doesn’t mean you won’t
later. According to Dr. Russell Blaylock, who wrote a book on the subject
called Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills, sensitivity to MSG builds up in our bodies until we
reach what he calls our “threshold of sensitivity.” The scientist also found
that MSG not only destroyed retinal vision cells, but also parts of the brain. Not only do they cause brain damage and lead to nervous disorders, but
they also cause radical hormone fluctuations.
Mice injected with MSG become rapidly
obese, inactive, and have other hormonal issues. It turns out that MSG is
especially harmful to pregnant or nursing mothers because infants and young
children are four times more sensitive to MSG than adults.
In
conclusion, we should avoid eating snacks that contained lot of MSG that can
harm our body in the future. It’s easier being said than done we know that
already. But the least we can do is prevented that by eating more healthy
snacks that also good for children like fruit, cereals, jellys, cheese etc. We
wanted our body to stay sharp and healthy. So, we might as well choose the best
snacks that are not dangerous to our body.
